Auckland City Hospital
Overview
Auckland City Hospital is New Zealand's largest public hospital and clinical research facility. Located in Grafton, the hospital is committed to excellence in patient care, research, training and community service.
In 2019 a new programme of works was started: FIRP, or Facilities Infrastructure Remediation Programme. The purpose of FIRP was to replace and improve the aging critical infrastructure serving the City Hospital and Green Lane Campuses.
FIRP was split into a number of tranches of work, with each tranche separated into workstreams (e.g. electrical, mechanical) and each workstream split into a number of projects. Tranche 1 included all essential upgrade works, such as the replacement of many of the HV substations or theatre air conditioning systems. Tranche 2 included the construction of a new central plant building and its integration into the existing hospital infrastructure via a new services tunnel.
Our role
We are engaged as the hospital's commissioning manager across the tranches of work. To date we have:
Provided input on system designs
Attended factory acceptance testing
Provided commissioning framework documents and reviewed contractors commissioning plans
Provided commissioning programmes and reviewed contractor's programmes for commissioning activities
Attended site to inspect installations, witness system pre-commissioning and system commissioning
Assisted in system migrations between old and new services
Provided oversight during critical infrastructure testing
Provided guidance on commissioning and input to help solve commissioning-related issues
